Chapter 73
“Director Hart…” Myra called out, her voice hoarse.
Tony looked at her blankly, then lowered his gaze, continuing to bandage his wound without a word.
“Myra, there’s no need to thank me,” he said flatly. “This construction site belongs to Hart Group. Even if you hadn’t been in danger, I wouldn’t have allowed anyone to get hurt here.”
His words seemed to echo the reminder of what she had told him the other night—her request for distance between them. Myra froze, stunned. But before she could gather her thoughts, Tony had already finished tending to his injury.
He stood up and carelessly threw his suit aside, revealing a white shirt underneath. His cuffs were folded neatly, and his dark blue tie was impeccably straight. His sharp features looked even more striking in the sunlight. Though he was on a construction site, surrounded by dust and workers in helmets, nothing could dull his presence. He exuded a cold, untouchable aura that only heightened his handsomeness.
“Leo, do I have any other appointments for today?” Tony asked, addressing his secretary who was standing behind him.
Leo hesitated, his eyes briefly flicking to Tony’s injured arm. “No, Director Hart. But you should really go to the hospital to check that wound…”
“Didn’t I tell you I’m not going to the hospital?” Tony replied with a half-smile, turning to glance at Leo.
In that moment, Leo felt a chill run down his spine. He quickly turned to Myra for help, but she just clenched her fists, feeling a sharp pain in her hand from the injury Tony had caused earlier. Her face went pale, and she spoke softly, “Director Hart, you should get your wound checked… what if—”
Tony’s cold voice interrupted her. “What right do you have to tell me what to do?”
Myra hadn’t expected this kind of response from him, especially after he had just saved her from the falling brick. She stiffened, biting her lip, but Tony had already turned and walked away, leaving her standing in silence.
Leo sighed inwardly as he watched Tony leave. He had wanted to say something to Myra, but he was too afraid of Tony’s temper. Instead, he hurried after his boss.
Tony was tall, and even in the busy construction site, he stood out. Myra watched as he walked into the distance, a strange ache forming in her chest. Her lips trembled, and her gaze shifted to the black suit he had discarded. He had forgotten it.
“Tony…” she whispered, just as she realized he was nowhere in sight. Confused and unsure, she stared at the jacket, lost in thought.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Tony leaned back and closed his eyes, trying to rest. The worried expression on Myra’s face from earlier replayed in his mind, and he felt his tense expression soften.
Myra is a stubborn woman. I’ve shown her kindness several times, but she still keeps pushing me away. Yet when she saw me hurt, she was clearly concerned. I know she has feelings for me, but it bothers me that she refuses to acknowledge it.
His frown deepened when he remembered Myra had mentioned being married. That thought only fueled his frustration.
In the driver’s seat, Leo couldn’t help but feel a cold sweat trickle down his back. He had intended to persuade Tony to go to the hospital, but now he was worried even more about the director’s well-being.
“Director Hart,” Leo said hesitantly, “Young Master Elliot called. He said he’ll be meeting you at Zion Club at 7:00 p.m. tonight. Young Master Philip and Director Windrow will also be there. They want to discuss the Hilliville project.”
Tony rubbed his temples, nodding in response. Leo felt a little relieved. At least Young Master Philip was a doctor, so he might be able to check Tony’s injury. That way, Leo could stop worrying.
The car sped along the highway, and soon Tony’s phone rang. It was his grandfather, Sebastian.
“Hey, when am I going to get a granddaughter-in-law? I met Shawn today, and he was hugging a woman! Even he, the bachelor of the family, is seeing someone! When are you going to start dating?” Sebastian’s voice was filled with excitement.
Lisa Hart had never been concerned with her grandchildren’s marriages. She thought they were perfect as they were, but Sebastian was a different story. He was eager to see his great-grandchildren, imagining them running around the house, while his wife was perfectly content with their current family.
“I heard you hugged a woman at my birthday party,” Sebastian added, his tone mischievous. “I’ve been waiting for you to mention her yourself, but you’ve been silent! What’s the deal? Is there a woman?”
“If you like her, bring her home. Don’t worry about her background. Your grandmother and I aren’t those kinds of people,” Sebastian continued, already imagining the happy family scene.
Tony smirked slightly. “Are you sure you won’t mind her background?”
Sebastian grinned. “Why would I mind? Hurry up and introduce her to me!”
“I’m still pursuing her,” Tony replied coolly. “We’ll talk when it’s official.”
“What? You haven’t succeeded yet?” Sebastian’s jaw dropped in surprise. “Tsk! If you don’t know how to chase after a girl, you can ask me! I managed to win over your grandmother, and she’s a tough one. Grandpa’s got plenty of tricks.”
Before Tony could respond, he abruptly hung up, leaving Sebastian to stew in his frustration.
“Can’t even win a girl’s heart,” Sebastian muttered, upset. “Treats me coldly, too…”
He turned to the maid as she entered the room. “Where’s Lisa?”
“She’s in the garden, sir,” the maid replied, covering her mouth in amusement at Sebastian’s antics.
Sighing, Sebastian stood and hummed as he left the room.
“Don’t be obsessed with me. I’m just a legend…” he muttered, walking out the door.
At that same moment, Tony arrived at Zion Club. Upon entering the VIP room, Elliot rushed over, ready to help Tony with his suit. But when he saw Tony’s attire—just a white shirt with folded cuffs, no suit—his eyes widened.
“Oh my goodness, Tony, what happened to your arm?” Elliot exclaimed, his voice filled with concern. “There’s a thick layer of gauze around your arm, and I can even see blood seeping through!”
Leo quickly explained, “A brick fell at the construction site today. Director Hart protected Miss Stark by blocking it with his arm. He’s been injured but refused to go to the hospital. Young Master Philip, could you check his wound?”
Leo’s explanation contained several key points: Tony had gone to the site for no particular reason, he had sacrificed himself to protect Myra, and despite being injured, he had refused to seek medical help.
