When His Love Turned Cruel(80)

Chapter 80

Myra’s tension simmered beneath her calm exterior as she recalled the painful memories of her mother’s final days. The memories of her mother desperately searching for her estranged husband, refusing to heed any warnings, resurfaced with a vengeance. It was the image of her mother, lost in her pursuit of a man who would never love her the same way, that tormented Myra to this day.

As Kris stood before her, Myra’s gaze grew icy, her voice laced with scorn. “Stop playing games. What is it this time? Are you really here to ask me to give up my inheritance rights over Stark Group?”

Kris, seemingly taken aback by Myra’s directness, stomped her foot in feigned frustration. “Sis, there’s been a misunderstanding. Our father sent me to you because you haven’t answered my calls. The company is in trouble. Some of the shareholders are opposing Dad’s position as director. He thought, maybe, you could help. You own twenty percent of the shares, don’t you?”

Myra’s words cut through the air, harsh and unforgiving. “What’s the point? Aren’t you and your mother already plotting to take everything from me? Isn’t thirty percent of the shares your mother’s fair share?” She scoffed, not giving Kris a chance to finish.

Kris’s face flickered with discomfort, but she pushed on. “Sis, you know that our grandfather built Stark Group. Don’t you want to protect it from outsiders? Dad promised he would return your shares once things settle down. He doesn’t intend to—”

“In your dreams,” Myra interrupted with steely finality, her voice growing cold as she opened her door. “I won’t be part of your schemes. Do you think I haven’t seen through you by now? If it weren’t for you and your mother, none of this would have happened. You’ve destroyed everything, haven’t you?”

Kris faltered, her expression faltering for a moment before her bitterness resurfaced. “You don’t get it, do you? No wonder neither Sean nor Dad cares about you anymore! I’ve always been good enough to take your place, and now… you’ll get what’s coming to you. I heard Lyla Fisher’s back in town. What makes you think Sean will still want you? He already kicked you out of the house, Myra. And there’s one more thing you should know…” Kris’s voice trembled with cruel satisfaction, “Mom’s pregnant. And it’s going to be a boy.”

The words hit Myra like a punch to the gut. Every part of her body went cold, but she didn’t let it show. She slammed the door shut behind her, unable to suppress the flood of emotions. They think they’ve won, but they haven’t. Her mind raced as she walked into her apartment. A male heir. That’s all they want. They don’t care about the company, just the power they can take from me. The familiar bitterness in her throat only deepened, each word Kris said striking a painful chord.

She wanted to cry, but she didn’t. Instead, she pressed the heels of her palms against her eyes, determined not to break down. Will this pain ever end?

Meanwhile, Kris walked away, satisfied that her cruel words had found their mark. After years of being overshadowed by Myra, she could finally vent her frustration. Once the boy was born, everything would change. Stark Group would be theirs, and Myra would no longer have a claim to it. A small, malicious smile curled on Kris’s lips as she left.

At Hart Group, Myra had become a regular visitor since Tony took the blow for her. Her guilt over his injury weighed heavily on her, especially since it had led to complications and hospitalization. Every day, she tried to make it up to him, delivering soups she’d carefully researched, hoping the nourishment would help heal him.

One day, after dropping off another nutritious lunch, Myra spoke with Leo. “Mr. Clark, could you please give this to Mr. Hart?”

Leo observed the soup she brought, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Miss Stark, I see you’ve been bringing him a different soup every day. Mr. Hart seems to be in better spirits.”

Myra smiled faintly. “It’s the least I can do for him.”

After she left, Leo returned to his office, where Mrs. Chase, the ever-present figure of Sean’s mother, was waiting. Her anxious expression betrayed her concern. “How is Myra? I’ve been trying to reach her. She keeps avoiding me,” Eve asked, her voice thick with worry.

Leo sighed, glancing at the door as if contemplating his words. “Mrs. Chase, I understand your concerns, but I think you’re worrying needlessly. Myra has always been devoted to Sean, and while she may be upset now, she’ll come around. She’s only giving him the cold shoulder for a bit. She still loves him, I’m sure of it.”

Eve hesitated. “But… Leo, I’m worried. Myra never used to act like this. She always listened to me. Now… she’s avoiding me at all costs.”

Leo smiled gently, adjusting his glasses as he spoke with a confidence that belied his true feelings. “Sometimes, people need space to heal. Myra is strong. She’ll make the decision when the time is right. And Sean… he may not realize it yet, but he’ll eventually see what he’s lost.”

Eve softened, the worry in her eyes subsiding. “You’re right, of course. Myra will come back to him. I just need to give her time.”

With that, Leo gave her a reassuring nod, but inside, he wondered just how much longer Myra could wait for Sean to realize his mistakes.
