When His Love Turned Cruel(146)

Chapter 146

Chapter Title: Tensions and Realizations

After finishing her words, Myra lifted the bag again, her hand trembling slightly as she walked back toward her apartment. The moment she moved, Sean’s eyes dimmed, and a slight wave of anger bubbled up within him. Without thinking, he reached out and pulled her back by the wrist.

“Who are you seeing now?” he demanded, his voice laced with something darker. Why else would she speak to me like that?

At that moment, neither of them noticed the black Maybach that was driving toward them under the glowing sunset.

Myra’s anger flared when he grabbed her. She yanked her arm away and glared at him. “Even if I am seeing someone, what does it have to do with you?” she spat, her eyes narrowing. She took a step back and folded her arms defiantly. “Don’t tell me you’re bothered because I’m with another man now? Remember, we’re divorced. You have no say in who I’m with!”

Sean’s face darkened further, a flicker of fury igniting in his eyes. But when he saw the calm, almost cold expression on her face, he forced himself to suppress his anger. A scoff escaped his lips as he spoke, his words sharp. “After all, we were once married. I’m just reminding you of your status, Myra. You should be careful about the men who approach you. Either they don’t know you’re a divorcee, or they’re after your money.”

Myra’s body shook with anger, and she had to fight with every ounce of her will not to hurl the contents of the bag at him. She clenched her fists tightly. “Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, Sean,” she said bitterly, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “But the man I’m seeing now knows I’m divorced, and he doesn’t care about my measly fortune. Not all men are as malicious as you. You sent me to prison to protect yourself, and now you have the audacity to show up here with your invitation?”

His face twisted in irritation, but something about her words hit him harder than he expected.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but the anger still boiled beneath the surface. Sean, however, didn’t seem to be listening. “You’re already with another man,” he muttered, his voice tinged with bitterness. “I knew something felt off when we got divorced. Who knew you’d move on this quickly? You really are cheap, Myra.”

At that, Myra’s patience finally snapped. “Cheap?” she asked incredulously, her voice rising. How dare he say that to me? The memories of everything she had endured—the humiliation, the betrayal—flooded back. With cold eyes, she fixed her gaze on him. “Well, I guess I stalked you for years because I’m cheap. I’m truly sorry, Sean. From now on, I’ll live a dignified life, far, far away from you!” She emphasized the word far as if to make sure he understood her meaning.

Sean’s face twisted in surprise, but before he could respond, Myra’s phone suddenly rang, breaking the tense moment.

The caller ID read “Hubby.”

Myra stared at the screen, her heart giving a strange little jolt. When Tony had left last time, she had noticed his contact name had changed to “Hubby,” but she hadn’t bothered to correct it.

The anger that had been surging inside her faded the moment she saw his name. A quiet sense of comfort spread over her. Without a second thought, she answered the call.

“Hello?”

“Where are you now?” Tony’s voice was muffled, as though he had been smoking.

“I’m downstairs in the apartment,” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady.

There was a pause on the other end before he spoke again, his tone casual but firm. “Turn around.”

Sean had been watching her closely, and he caught sight of the call. His gaze hardened with a mix of contempt and something else—something he couldn’t quite name. As he followed her line of sight, his eyes landed on the familiar black Maybach approaching.

That car… he thought. I’ve seen it before. His mind flashed back to the night outside the detention center, when he had seen this same Maybach driving out of the gates. A wave of recognition washed over him.

A tall, handsome man stepped out of the car, wearing a sleek black suit and black leather shoes. His presence was commanding, cold, and slightly intimidating. As soon as Tony caught sight of Sean and Myra, he flicked his cigarette aside and made his way toward them, each step purposeful and confident.

Myra blinked, her surprise evident. I thought he was coming back tomorrow, she thought. Why is he back a day early? Her confusion deepened as she realized her current situation. Although she hadn’t meant for this to happen, she was standing with Sean. Could Tony be angry?

Tony moved through the crowd effortlessly, his posture relaxed but graceful, as if he were above it all. The golden hues of the sunset softened his usually unreadable expression, adding an unexpected elegance to his presence.

When he reached Myra, he reached out with one smooth motion and pulled her into his arms. His gaze softened as he looked down at her. “Why do you look so surprised?” he asked, his smile gentle. “Aren’t you happy I came back early?”

The tenderness in his voice caught her off guard. For a moment, she froze, the tension between them dissipating under the warmth of his embrace. But then she noticed a sharp, almost dangerous gleam in his eyes as he glanced at Sean.

Tony’s hold on her tightened slightly, and Myra felt a slight sting in her waist as he pulled her closer. But instead of feeling uneasy, she found herself… not worried. A smile tugged at her lips as she looked up at him, no longer holding any animosity. “Of course, I’m happy,” she replied softly.

“Did you miss me while I was gone?” Tony asked, clearly not satisfied with her brief response. He pinched her cheek lightly, his expression playful yet tender, as though Sean didn’t even exist in the moment.

Myra chuckled, her heart warming at the affection in his gaze. “Yes, I missed you so much,” she answered sincerely, her eyes sparkling with genuine emotion.

Tony’s gaze softened even more, and then, with a swift motion, he snatched the white wedding invitation from Sean’s hand. “Looks like you came all the way here to deliver this, Director Chase,” Tony remarked, his voice laced with mockery. “We truly appreciate your effort.”

Sean stood there, stunned, his heart sinking as he watched the couple before him. He couldn’t deny it anymore—Myra was with another man. Not just any man, but Tony Hart, the man she had once been involved with.

His mind raced as the reality of the situation hit him. She really has moved on. The realization made him feel like he was suffocating. He couldn’t understand how everything had changed so suddenly.

As Myra and Tony shared a quiet, affectionate moment, Sean was left standing in the middle of the street, his thoughts a tangled mess. Had he misjudged everything? And how could he explain all of this now?
