When His Love Turned Cruel(124)

Chapter 124

Chapter Title: Dividing the Land

Just as Myra finished speaking, a voice rang out, sharp and incredulous. “This is impossible!”

It wasn’t Eve or Sean, but Lyla, who couldn’t hide her shock.

However, a sharp glare from Eve quickly silenced her.

Eve’s face shifted, her expression hardening. She had hoped everything would wrap up smoothly today after the divorce proceedings, but Myra’s unexpected demand for half of Chase Group’s land in Hilliville had thrown her off balance.

Two years ago, that land had been a dead city. Asking for half of it then wouldn’t have caused a stir. But now that it was about to be sold for a profit, no one would willingly accept losing part of it.

“Myra…” Eve paused, choosing her words carefully. “I’ve always felt bad about the way things turned out between you and Sean. I care about you, but don’t you think this request is a little too much? Sean worked tirelessly to develop Hilliville from the ground up. Have you even considered how this might affect us?”

Myra’s gaze turned cold, her voice steady. “In that case, have you ever thought about me, Mrs. Chase? I used to think you were someone who would always treat me with kindness, but now I see that your affection came with strings attached. If I was no longer useful to you, I wouldn’t even get a second glance.”

The words hit harder than Myra intended, but she had no regrets. They had made their choices, and now she was making hers.

“Mrs. Chase, you must know who helped Chase Group rise so quickly. Who kept the company from being bought out by others? Who was the scapegoat that allowed you to live so comfortably? Half of Hilliville’s land isn’t an outrageous request. If you want, we can go to court, and I can fight for even more.”

Her voice was calm, but the satisfaction of finally standing her ground surged through her veins.

Lyla couldn’t keep quiet anymore. “Fine! Let’s go to court then!” she snapped. “Myra, don’t forget, we have pictures of you with other men. Do you really think the court will side with a woman who cheated on her husband?”

Myra’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “In that case, should I thank you, Director Chase, for your undying love for Miss Fisher? Do you need me to remind you how many women like her you’ve entertained in the past? Everyone in Bradfort City knows you’re a playboy, switching partners every night. Now, you’re accusing me of being with another man? You can’t even make out who the man in those photos is. How are you going to prove he’s not you?”

Sean’s face darkened immediately, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a knife.

“You—” he began, but Lyla was already trying to speak again when Eve intervened sharply.

“Enough!” Eve snapped at Lyla, her face red with fury. Lyla fell silent, her anger simmering beneath the surface. She had saved Chase Group, but it seemed Eve wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it right now. The frustration was palpable, but Lyla knew better than to show it, especially in front of Sean.

“Can we talk about this, Myra?” Eve tried to soften her tone, though it was strained. “Half is simply too much… How about we settle on 20%? You have to understand our position too.”

Myra’s expression remained unmoved. “50%—no more, no less. I don’t want to discuss the past anymore. This is my final offer. If you need more time, take it, but we can meet again later.”

With that, she turned to leave, her decision made.

“Fine. If you want half, so be it,” Sean’s cold voice echoed behind her, making Myra stop in her tracks.

Eve’s eyes widened in shock. “Have you lost your mind, Sean?”

Myra’s lips twitched into a faint smile, but when she turned to face them, her eyes were nothing but indifference. Without another word, she walked toward a nearby photocopy shop.

“Sean, that’s 50%!” Lyla said, unable to keep her frustration in check. “She’s going overboard.”

Sean looked at the two women with a calm, almost calculating expression. “In that case, do you have any better suggestions?”

Neither Eve nor Lyla had an answer. They knew it was impossible to ask Myra for another chance after what they’d done to her. They’d pushed her to this point, and now they would have to live with the consequences. Eve even considered kneeling before Myra if that’s what it took, but the reality was clear: Myra wasn’t asking for forgiveness. She wanted her due.

As Myra entered the photocopy shop, Sean’s gaze followed her, his thoughts swirling. She was different now. In the past, she had always seemed burdened, weighed down by her troubles. But today, she walked with a new confidence, like a woman about to start a new chapter in her life. His stomach twisted at the sight.

“Has she really changed this much?” he thought, his mind racing. “Is this all a show? Or is she planning to take so much that I’ll be forced to beg her to come back?”

Without another word, Sean entered the photocopy shop, following Myra inside.

By noon, everything was settled. Myra had collected her marriage certificate from Eve before they entered the Civil Affairs Bureau. But when she walked out, it wasn’t a marriage certificate she held—it was a divorce certificate. And with it, she felt like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

Her steps were lighter now, free of the burden she had carried for so long.

Behind her, Sean’s face had darkened yet again. The tension between him and Myra was palpable, but he said nothing.

Eve and Lyla remained in the car, parked far away, unwilling to follow the couple into the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Myra took out her phone to call Tony, as he had asked her to do once everything was settled. But just as she was about to dial, Sean stepped in front of her, blocking her way.

“Myra, who bailed you out of the police station last night?” His tall figure loomed over her, his tone sharp.

Myra frowned slightly but answered indifferently. “I don’t think that concerns you, Director Chase.”

“Was it your father?” Sean pressed, ignoring her response. He was determined to get an answer.

The mention of her father caused Myra’s expression to harden, and her voice turned colder. “No matter who it was, it wasn’t you. What do you want from me?”

“Was it a man who picked you up?” Sean’s eyes darkened as he grabbed her hand, his voice turning icy. “Who was it?”
