Chapter 136
Chapter Title: Unexpected Turns
When someone truly cared for another person, their thoughts often turned to what the other’s family might think of them. Myra knew this all too well.
Suddenly, a large, warm hand wrapped around her left hand. Startled, she looked up to meet Tony’s eyes, which were glinting with the coldness of distant stars.
Seeing her eyes redden slightly, Tony’s lips tightened into a firm line. “She can’t come in through the door? Well, she can always come in through the window, can’t she? I’m just marrying a woman. Why all the drama?”
“You jerk! I’m your grandfather!” Sebastian’s voice cracked, a blend of anger and disbelief.
“Are grandfathers supposed to stop their grandsons from being happy?” Tony shot back swiftly, leaving Sebastian momentarily speechless. The older man’s face turned crimson with rage, and he gulped water from his cup, trying to control his breathing, but it only led to a violent coughing fit.
Myra instinctively reached toward him, but Tony’s grip on her hand tightened, pulling her back with a cold warning. “Didn’t you hear what he just said about us? Why are you still helping him?”
“You… You…” Sebastian was beyond furious, hacking so violently that it looked as though he might pass out.
“Tony…” Myra bit her lip, fixing him with a disapproving gaze. She knew Sebastian had his reasons for his anger, but she couldn’t just watch him suffer like that.
Tony’s expression darkened but softened when he saw the pleading look in Myra’s eyes. Reluctantly, he released her hand, allowing her to move.
She rushed over to Sebastian, but he shot her a fierce glare when she raised her hand to pat his back. “Don’t pretend to be kind!”
With gritted teeth, Myra ignored his protest and gently patted his back, trying to ease his breathing. Though he grumbled, Sebastian didn’t push her away, and after a few moments, his coughs subsided. Still, his voice remained harsh. “Don’t think I’ll change my mind just because you help me. If I don’t like you, then I don’t like you. Got it?”
“If you don’t like me, then so be it,” Myra responded unexpectedly, meeting his gaze without flinching.
Sebastian blinked, stunned by her calm response. “What did you just say?”
Taking a deep breath, Myra continued, her tone unwavering, “Old Master Hart, I know you don’t like me, and I understand why. But no matter how much you dislike me, it’s impossible for me to leave Tony. Even if you don’t like me, you’re still an elder, and I’ll still respect you.”
At her words, Tony’s hand tightened around hers once more, sending a warmth through her. Despite the slight discomfort, she found herself wanting nothing more than for him to keep holding her hand.
In that moment, a fleeting thought crossed her mind. She knew the truth—she might never be able to truly fit into the Hart family. Her status, her past, everything about her was an obstacle. But Tony had been unwavering, and how could she turn her back on him now? He had been there for her, and how could she ignore his feelings?
Sebastian’s eyes narrowed when he heard Myra’s firm words. He sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. “Well said. You respect me, huh? Then, if I told you to leave him, would you?”
He pointed at Tony, whose expression shifted from stoic to cold.
Myra’s face paled, but she straightened her posture and, without hesitation, answered, “I can’t do it.”
“Can’t do it, but you claim to respect me?” Sebastian scoffed. “Young people sure love to talk big.”
“But… I can pursue Tony again,” Myra said suddenly, catching both men off guard.
She took a deep breath, giving Tony a soft, apologetic smile before turning her attention back to Sebastian.
Without warning, Tony stood up, gently pulling her into his arms, his expression unreadable but his lips curling ever so slightly into a small smile. As he held her close, he opened his mouth to speak, but Myra, quicker than he expected, cut him off. “Old Master Hart, I know you’re wary of my status as a divorced woman, and I understand you mind that I got together with Tony immediately after my divorce. But I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood. We always kept our distance before I divorced Sean. Tony didn’t have anything to do with our separation. If you still have doubts, I’ll pursue Tony again, and you can reevaluate me. But I ask for one thing: I hope you’ll give me a chance.”
When Myra finished speaking, Sebastian’s tight expression softened slightly, though he was still far from pleased.
After a long silence, he spoke, though with an edge to his tone. “Well, that’s a fine explanation. But really, you should be ashamed, talking about pursuing a man so boldly, especially in front of an old man like me.”
Myra turned crimson at the comment, but she didn’t back down. This wasn’t the woman she once was. Back then, she would have stayed silent, but now, she wanted peace between them all.
“I’m sorry… I won’t say such things in the future if you don’t like it.” She murmured, almost embarrassed by her own words.
Sebastian’s glare softened just a bit, but his discomfort was palpable.
Tony, however, watched with quiet amusement, his gaze flickering to his grandfather, whose face was painted with an expression of silent rage.
Sebastian huffed loudly, clearly frustrated. “Alright, enough. Let’s eat!”
With that, the tension in the air eased slightly, though Myra couldn’t shake the feeling of uncertainty.
She wasn’t sure if Sebastian had truly accepted her, but at least he hadn’t outright rejected her. When she sat down at the table, Tony subtly took her hand again under the table. His warmth spread through her fingers, and it was comforting in the midst of the chaos.
As the meal continued, the doorbell rang again, breaking the uneasy silence.
“I’ll get it,” Sebastian said with a grunt, not waiting for anyone else to stand.
He returned shortly with a large package from the real estate company downstairs. It was too heavy for him, and he almost stumbled with it.
“What did you order?” Sebastian asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
Myra shrugged. “Probably some snacks… Estelle loves them.”
Sebastian frowned. “Young people and your junk food…” He muttered as he went to open the box.
However, the moment the package was open, his face turned red with shock. He dropped the scissors in his hand, unable to contain his surprise.
“What is this?!” He looked horrified, his voice barely audible.
Myra rushed over, and when she saw the contents, her face turned scarlet. She stumbled over her words, utterly mortified. “I… I didn’t buy this…”
Before she could explain further, Tony strolled over calmly, his lips curling into a slight smile as he glanced at the contents.
Sebastian’s fury only intensified as he pointed at them. “This is what you’re buying now? Are you two serious about what’s inside this box?”
The moment of embarrassment stretched, and Myra wanted nothing more than to disappear.
