Chapter 139
Chapter Title: Unspoken Tensions
As Myra stepped into the bathroom, her gaze immediately landed on the two cups and two toothbrushes neatly placed in front of the mirror. Along with her usual toiletries, there were unmistakably men’s products as well.
On the towel rack beside the mirror, a navy blue towel had been added beside her own. It was all too familiar. It reminded her of the time she had spent one night at Tony’s apartment. The next morning, she had woken up to find the bathroom set up in the same way.
She quickly turned her attention to the storage basket beside her. Inside were the clothes she had changed out of the night before, piled on top of each other. And there, at the very top, was her nude-colored bra. Beneath it, much to her discomfort, were Tony’s black boxer briefs.
Myra’s face turned bright red.
Just as she was processing what she had seen, her phone rang. When she saw that it was Tony calling, she immediately hung up.
At that moment, Tony was at the airport, preparing to board his flight. When the call ended abruptly, his eyebrows lifted in mild surprise. She’s just woken up, and she’s already in a bad mood?
He dialed her number again.
This time, Myra didn’t hang up. But when she picked up the phone, her voice was noticeably cold. “Yes?”
Tony chuckled softly, sensing her irritation. “Angry?”
Myra remained silent, her expression stony.
“I’ll take care of everything quickly and come back. While I’m away, you’re not allowed to talk to other men or have any contact with them. I’ll get jealous, Myra.” Tony’s lips curled up slightly at the thought of her sulking.
If it hadn’t been for the exhaustion she had shown from the previous night, he would have had a harder time restraining himself.
“I don’t care if you get jealous!” Myra’s heart raced at his words, but she forced herself to reply with a hint of defiance, “Why are you so domineering? I can’t even talk to other men?” Her voice trailed off almost inaudibly as she spoke the last part.
Tony’s eyes darkened slightly. “Who else do you want to talk to? Sean?”
The mention of Sean made Myra flinch. For some reason, she felt a pang of guilt, though she couldn’t explain why. “I understand…” she murmured softly, her voice barely audible.
After a brief pause, she added, “Come back soon…”
Her heart tugged at her own words. Why didn’t I stand my ground? she chastised herself.
Tony laughed softly. “Remember to miss me.”
Myra’s face turned hot, and she huffed in response. Before hanging up, Tony casually added, “Make sure you wash the pants I changed out of last night.”
Myra’s embarrassment surged again at the mention of his black boxer briefs, but now, she was more irritated than shy. She muttered an irritated “you wish” before hanging up.
She stared at her reflection in the mirror. When did my life become so… full of vigor again?
She had divorced Sean, and Tony had left Bradfort City. Now, it seemed she could finally settle down and focus on the many things she needed to contemplate.
First on her list was a trip to the Ritz Carlton.
At noon, Myra drove her white sports car and quickly arrived at the hotel.
However, fate had other plans. She ran into the last people she wanted to see.
Eve, Sean, and Lyla had come to the Ritz Carlton together. Eve had suggested that the three of them have a nice meal and put the past misunderstandings behind them to start fresh.
When Eve saw Myra approaching, she hadn’t expected the encounter. But, unlike what Eve assumed, Myra wasn’t depressed or sulking after her divorce. Instead, she had a healthy glow to her, her complexion rosy and full of life.
She wore a light yellow ankle-length dress paired with a small vest, exuding a quiet sense of happiness and peace.
If Eve hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she would have never believed Myra could look so content. After all, Eve knew how much Myra had once loved her son. Unless it was a fake divorce, how could she be so happy?
As Myra walked toward them, the trio paused, their expressions a mix of surprise and discomfort.
A flash of surprise crossed Myra’s heart, but the corners of her lips curled into a faint sneer. She considered walking away and ignoring them entirely, but then Eve’s voice stopped her in her tracks.
“Myra, are you here for a meal too?” Eve’s tone was tinged with hesitation.
Myra wanted to walk away, but Eve moved right in front of her, blocking her path. It wasn’t clear whether she had done it on purpose.
Frowning slightly, Myra met the gazes of the three people before her, her voice as indifferent as ever. “Mrs. Chase, is there a problem?”
“Myra…” There was a faint trace of affection in Eve’s voice, but it had been replaced with a cold, patronizing tone. Since Myra had taken half of the Chase Group’s assets in Hilliville, Eve’s dislike had only grown stronger. Now, she saw Myra as a scheming woman.
Eve continued, her voice deliberately condescending. “Myra, Sean has wronged you, but now that you’ve divorced him, it’s best you both stay out of each other’s lives to avoid any rumors, don’t you think?”
Myra could clearly see Eve’s true feelings now. The woman’s words only made her feel amusement and irony. She swept her gaze across Sean, a mocking smile curling on her lips. “I came here to eat. But you think I came here just to run into you, Mrs. Chase?”
Eve frowned, her expression tightening. “You’re the best judge of your own intentions.”
Myra’s smile deepened as she replied, “I really don’t understand. Mrs. Chase, don’t you know who owns this hotel?”
Not far away, the manager of the Ritz Carlton hurried toward them.
As he neared, he addressed Myra politely. “Miss Stark, Mr. Engelhard is waiting for you inside.”
“Mr. Johnson, please inform Mr. Engelhard that I’m being delayed by a few people I’ve encountered. I’ll join him shortly,” Myra said with a polite smile.
The manager, Aaron, immediately gave a wary glance toward the three of them. When he recognized who they were, a flicker of disgust crossed his face. He turned back to Myra. “Miss Stark, would you like me to help you with them?”
Seeing the immediate shift in the three’s expressions, Myra couldn’t help but smile slightly. “It’s fine. I’ll handle this. We just ran into each other, and they probably think I’m still yearning for someone. I just need to make things clear so there’s no room for certain fantasies.”
Sean’s face turned grim, and he pressed his lips together in frustration. “Myra, do you really have to speak with such bitterness? Have you forgotten how my mother treated you last time?”
“I haven’t forgotten.” The disgust in Myra’s eyes was unmistakable. How could I forget? She’s done so many filthy things to me.
Myra had tried to hold back from revisiting the past, but that didn’t mean she had forgotten.
If everyone could simply live in peace, that would be fine. But if someone insisted on stirring up trouble, she wasn’t going to sit back and take it.
“It’s precisely because I remember Mrs. Chase’s actions that I feel the need to clarify. Mrs. Chase, fifty percent of the Ritz Carlton belongs to me. I have more right to be here than anyone else. As for the three of you…” Myra’s gaze shifted to Sean, a sly smirk on her lips. “Could it be that Sean brought you here because he’s still pining for me?”
