When His Love Turned Cruel(177)

Chapter 177

The conversation with her friends had clearly become a thorn in Eve’s side. She had never been fond of Lyla, but now, she was an outright nuisance. Eve’s expression darkened further as Lyla, uninterested in any further confrontation, walked past her and headed straight toward the house.

Eve clenched her fists, trying to stifle her rage. She refused to let it spill over, not wanting to drag Sean into another conflict between them. But don’t let me find out what you’re doing behind my son’s back, Lyla, she seethed inwardly, her heart boiling with hatred.

Back at the office, Kris wasn’t in a much better mood. She had a clear understanding of what kind of woman Lyla was, but they shared a common enemy. The old saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” rang true in this case. Kris couldn’t afford to fall out with Lyla just yet. Still, the sight of Myra flirting with Tony had lit a fire in her.

Tony had just dropped Myra off near Stark Tower, and as she unbuckled her seatbelt, she couldn’t help but glance at him. In the past, he would have leaned over to kiss her before she got out, but today, he didn’t make a move. A little uneasy, Myra decided to take the initiative, kissing the corner of his lips. “Can you pick me up tonight?” she asked softly.

Tony raised an eyebrow, glancing at her. “Aren’t you afraid that others will see us?”

Myra, knowing he was teasing, grabbed his hand from the steering wheel and shook it lightly. “So what if they see us? They’ll find out that you’re mine sooner or later anyway.”

His expression softened, and he pressed her head against his chest for a brief moment, planting a kiss on her forehead. “I’m not sure if I’m busy tonight. If I am, I’ll send Leo to pick you up.”

“Okay,” Myra agreed, nodding happily. As she walked away, she stole a glance at the ring on her finger, feeling a sense of warmth in her chest. She felt like the luckiest woman in the world.

However, things took a sharp turn when Myra encountered Kris standing just outside the building. Kris had been waiting for her, and Myra chose to ignore her, walking past as if she hadn’t seen her. But Kris wasn’t about to let it slide. With an indifferent grin, she blocked Myra’s way.

“Sis, I didn’t know you were getting better at seducing men,” Kris remarked, eyeing her. “But as your sister, I have to remind you to be very careful. You should know your boundaries before you bite off more than you can chew. There are some people you shouldn’t mess with. Stop dreaming.” With that, Kris turned and walked back to the company, leaving Myra standing at the entrance, her brows furrowed in confusion.

Myra’s lips curled into a disdainful grin as she watched Kris walk away. Kris’ words were clearly laced with jealousy, likely because of Myra’s relationship with Tony. But Myra wasn’t concerned. Kris wouldn’t dare tell Cameron about it. After all, Kris was also interested in Tony herself, and exposing the truth would only hurt her.

“Myra,” Myra whispered to herself, narrowing her eyes. If the Stark family wants to use my relationship with Tony for their gain, they’ll have to think again. I won’t allow it.

Meanwhile, Tony was still smiling to himself after dropping Myra off. His mood had definitely improved thanks to her sweet words. As he glanced at the ring on his finger, his grin widened. He suddenly had an idea, so he pulled over, grabbed his phone, and snapped a photo of his hand with the ring. The picture was uploaded with a caption: “I know it’s kind of ugly, but I’ll just wear it.”

His followers immediately reacted, some cursing him for his public display of affection.

Elliot, always eager to engage, commented: “Tony, the ring is beautiful. The person who gave it to you must’ve put a lot of thought into it. It must have been Myra, right?”

Tony usually ignored Elliot’s teasing, but today, he couldn’t help but admit, “Yeah.”

Elliot, sensing an opportunity to flatter Tony, continued: “Tsk, tsk. Looks like Myra really loves you. I’ve never seen a woman take the initiative to give a man a ring. Myra’s very unique.”

Tony’s lips quirked at the compliment, and he glanced at the ring again, unconcerned with the attention it was drawing. Is it really worth all the fuss? he thought to himself, but his mood had certainly brightened.

Later that afternoon, Leo informed Tony about an invitation to Bradfort University’s “Road to Success Conference,” which would take place the next day. The principal had personally invited Tony, along with other notable alumni, after hearing that current students admired him. Normally, Leo would have never passed on such an invitation, but today… something felt different.

Tony leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing as he took in the news. “Reason,” he asked coolly, his fingers still holding the cigarette with his left hand.

Leo, ever the observant one, noticed the ring on Tony’s left hand and understood why his boss was in such a good mood. He cleared his throat before answering, “Bradfort University is Miss Stark’s alma mater. I heard the principal invited her as well, since she’s an outstanding designer. Along with Miss Stark, Director Chase from the Chase Group is also on the list of invitees.”

At the mention of Sean, Leo held his breath, waiting for Tony’s reaction. To his surprise, Tony scoffed. “That brat is considered successful in Bradfort City?”

Leo suppressed a chuckle. While he had his own issues with Sean, he knew the man was considered one of the city’s young talents, even if Tony didn’t care for him.

“So,” Leo asked tentatively, “Are you going to accept the invitation, Director Hart?”

Tony put out his cigarette and nodded. “Clear my schedule for tomorrow.”
