When His Love Turned Cruel(183)

Chapter 183

Myra recalled how Kris had always been fond of that villa in Cape District. But the property had always been a treasure Cameron hoarded—it was the most expensive and significant place to him, one he had never allowed Kris to have. So when Cameron mentioned it now, Myra felt disgusted, though a part of her was surprised. She could also understand why Kris had that sour expression when she left his office earlier. However, Myra didn’t think this was a sudden attempt at fatherly affection. She narrowed her eyes at him and said, “Just tell me what this is about, President Stark. Even if you don’t mind beating around the bush, I find it quite exhausting.”

Surprisingly, Cameron didn’t seem offended by her bluntness. Instead, he offered her a resigned smile. “Look at you. I just wanted to make your daily commute easier. Your sister has always wanted that villa, but I’ve kept it for you. Myra, I treat you far better than I treat your sister.”

She kept her expression neutral. “Oh. Since you want to give it to me, just go through the procedures and have someone bring the documents to my office when they’re ready. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”

She turned to leave, but Cameron stopped her. “Wait, Myra. There’s something else I need to discuss with you.”

Her wariness grew. Before she could say anything, he continued, “When you left the Chase family, I remember you took fifty percent of Chase Group’s assets in Hilliville. Isn’t that right?”

Her steps faltered for a moment, and then she turned back with a sharp retort, “Which one of my properties are you interested in, President Stark? Since you’re giving me that villa, just tell me which one you like, and I’ll have the changes made and the documents sent over tomorrow.” Her words dripped with sarcasm.

His expression hardened for a brief moment but quickly softened into a smile again. “Myra, as you know, Hilliville is a dead city. That’s what I wanted to discuss with you. Owning that piece of land won’t serve you any purpose. If you’re just going to let it sit there, why not sell it to me instead? I know you’ve been getting into investing lately. Why not take some cash and do as you please with it? What do you say?”

A thought struck her. “How much are you offering for this land?”

Cameron lifted his teacup, taking a sip before answering nonchalantly, “How does a billion sound?”

A billion… The amount was tempting, no doubt. The Stark family owned eighty percent of Stark Group, and the remaining twenty percent was held by outsiders. Myra thought of buying back those shares, but something about Cameron’s confident demeanor made her cautious. She raised an eyebrow. “A billion? Are you sure you’re not throwing that money away on a dead city?”

“Wasting?” Cameron scoffed, his voice laced with a hint of disdain. He stood up and walked toward her. “Myra, having a billion is better than owning a dead city. You can always make more money with money, but what good is a city that doesn’t bring any profit?”

“I don’t know about that, but I do know you never get involved in something that would cost you money. So, why would I sell it to you?” she replied, her smile thin and cold.

Cameron’s expression darkened, but he persisted, “How about I sweeten the deal? Plus five percent of Stark Group’s shares.”

Her steps faltered briefly, but she quickly regained her composure. “President Stark, don’t you realize that the more you offer, the more you’re telling me how valuable that land is? Maybe I should say this more directly: don’t bother with my assets.”

With that, she spun on her heel and walked out of his office, her back straight and resolute.

Cameron, left simmering with frustration, flung the documents on his desk aside. How had she become so intuitive after her divorce? She hadn’t even been tempted by such an obvious bait, and in the end, she had the upper hand. His fists clenched as he narrowed his eyes. Then, grabbing his phone, he dialed Kris’s number. The call was answered quickly.

“Kris,” he began, “I fully support what you told me earlier. Do your best to win Director Hart over. I’ll back you up, and you must make an impression on the two elders of the Hart family. Win their favor, and you’ll be in.”

Kris’s voice was filled with satisfaction. “Don’t worry, Dad. I know exactly how to win over Director Hart. I won’t let you down.”

There was a brief pause before Cameron’s voice dropped lower. “One more thing… Do you know where your sister keeps all her important documents?”

Back in her own office, Myra couldn’t help but smile in satisfaction after leaving Cameron’s office. She had always been aware of his hidden motives, but now she knew the true value of the land in Hilliville. Cameron had just handed her the information she needed, whether he meant to or not.

She sat down at her desk and pulled up the latest economic news relating to Bradfort City. As expected, the Hart Group had officially announced their purchase of sixty percent of Hilliville’s real estate and had already begun making significant changes to revitalize the area—attracting businesses and selling houses.

The Hart Group’s influence was immense. It didn’t take long for media outlets to report on the announcement, and economic experts were predicting Hilliville’s transformation. It was becoming clear that Hart Group’s involvement would breathe life back into the area and turn it into a new business hub. With the backing of the prominent families of Bradfort City, like the Renaud, Windrow, Samson, and Moss families, the area would likely become one of the city’s new centers.

Now she understood why Cameron wanted that land.

A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she looked at the article, her gaze softening as she saw the name “Hart Group” once more. She wasn’t sure if Tony had done all this for her, but she was undoubtedly the biggest beneficiary of his actions.

Myra wasn’t a stubborn person—she felt moved by what Tony had done. He had indeed brought magic into her life. She suddenly had the overwhelming urge to see him.

After shutting off her computer, she grabbed her purse and headed toward the basement parking lot. As she exited the elevator, she spotted Kris, who was walking toward her flashy red sports car, swaying her hips with an exaggerated, almost theatrical gait.

Kris sneered at Myra when she noticed her, sliding into her car with that same mocking expression. With a quick rev of her engine, she sped off.

Myra didn’t let it bother her. She walked to her own car, entered it, and drove off toward Bradfort University.

The conference at Bradfort University had come to an end soon after. Sean had spent most of the latter half of it smoking outside, clearly agitated. When the principal spotted him, he quickly spoke to Tony before heading outside himself.

The principal’s face still held a certain pride and nostalgia whenever he saw Sean. After all, Sean was one of the school’s most successful alumni.

Reaching Sean, the principal greeted him warmly. “Sean, why didn’t you come with Myra today? I sent her an invitation too.”
