When His Love Turned Cruel(135)

Chapter 135

When someone cared about a person, they would always worry about what the person’s family thought of them.

Suddenly, a large, warm hand grabbed Myra’s left hand. She looked up in surprise and met Tony’s gaze, which seemed to gleam with the coldness of distant stars.

Seeing that Myra’s eyes were a little red, Tony pressed his lips into a hard line. “She can’t get in through the door? Well, she can come in through the window, can’t she? I’m just taking a wife—why are you so emotional?”

“You—” Sebastian’s words were cut off in frustration. “I’m your grandfather!”

“Are grandfathers supposed to hinder their grandsons from being happy?” Tony responded swiftly. Sebastian was left speechless, so angry that he found it hard to breathe. He quickly grabbed the cup next to him and took large gulps of water. Almost immediately, he started to choke, coughing violently, his thick neck turning red.

Myra wanted to rush to his side when she saw this, but Tony held her back and said coldly, “Didn’t you hear what he said about us just now? Why are you still trying to help him?”

“You… you…” Sebastian’s anger only grew, and his coughing became so intense it seemed like he might faint.

“Tony…” Myra bit her lip as she shot him a disapproving look.

She knew Sebastian couldn’t be blamed for this situation. After all, she had gotten together with his grandson shortly after her divorce from Sean. If she were Tony’s relative, she might not appreciate a woman like herself, someone who seemed to cling to him.

Tony’s face darkened, but when he saw the pleading look in Myra’s eyes, he slowly loosened his grip on her hand.

Myra rushed to Sebastian, wanting to pat him on the back, but the old man glared at her threateningly.

“Don’t pretend to be kind!” he snapped, starting to cough again.

Myra gritted her teeth and, ignoring his protests, gently patted his back. Noticing he was struggling to breathe, she tried to calm him down.

The whole time, Sebastian wanted to pull away, but Myra seemed to cling to him like a piece of gum. He didn’t want her touching him, but there she was, determined to help him.

Truth be told, Sebastian didn’t want to avoid her completely, but he was just so infuriated by the situation. He bit his tongue and allowed Myra to assist him.

When his breathing steadied, his face stiffened again as he snapped, “Don’t think I’m easy to please. If I don’t like you, that means I don’t like you! Hmph!”

“If you don’t like me, then you don’t have to,” Myra replied unexpectedly.

“What did you just say?” Sebastian could hardly believe his ears.

Myra took a deep breath and, meeting Sebastian’s gaze, said softly, “Old Master Hart, I understand that you don’t like me, and I can respect that. But no matter how much you dislike me, I can’t leave Tony. I will still respect you as an elder, no matter what.”

When she said, “no matter how much you dislike me, I can’t leave Tony,” Tony’s hand tightened around hers, the pressure a little painful, but Myra wanted nothing more than for him to keep holding her like that.

She had once thought that after the divorce, she would never be able to be with Tony. She knew her background would hold her back from joining the Hart family, and that someone like her could never win the heart of a man like him.

But in the end, she couldn’t resist. How could she stay away from someone like Tony? Love wasn’t just about two people; it was about the feelings they shared.

Tony had dedicated himself to her, so how could she ignore his feelings and act selfishly? He always said he would be there for her no matter what, and she didn’t want him to be the only one facing hardships for both of them.

Sebastian’s eyes narrowed when he heard Myra’s words.

“Well said,” he sneered. “You respect me? Then, if I tell you to leave him, will you do it?”

He pointed at Tony, whose expression shifted abruptly.

Myra’s face paled slightly, but she straightened up, holding Tony’s hand firmly, not letting him speak. “I can’t do that.”

“You can’t do it, but you’re talking about respecting me?” Sebastian scoffed. “Young people love to boast!”

“But I can pursue Tony again,” Myra said suddenly, causing both men to freeze in shock.

Taking a deep breath, Myra glanced at the surprised man beside her and gave him a soft smile.

Before Tony could react, he stood up and held her in his arms. His face remained impassive, but there was a slight smile at the corner of his lips. He opened his mouth to speak, but Myra was faster.

“Old Master Hart,” she said, “I know you’re wary of my status as a divorced woman, and you don’t like that I got together with Tony right after the divorce. But I fear you’ve misunderstood, and I didn’t clarify things earlier. Tony and I had always kept our distance before I divorced. My ex-husband and I didn’t separate because of Tony; we already had issues in our marriage before that. But, if you still have doubts, I’m willing to pursue Tony again. I’ll let the Hart family reevaluate me. I just hope you’ll give me a chance.”

Upon hearing that they had kept their distance before her divorce, Sebastian couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

For a moment, his expression softened, but then it hardened again. Was this really something to be happy about?

He grumbled in a gruff tone, “You’re just a young woman. You should be ashamed of yourself, saying that you’ll pursue a man, especially in front of an old man like me.”

Myra flushed deeply. The old her would never have said something like this, but she couldn’t bear to see Sebastian and Tony at odds.

She lowered her head and murmured sadly, “If you don’t like me acting this way, I won’t say such things again.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt Tony’s icy gaze on her.

Sebastian couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction as he saw Myra’s respectful demeanor.

But, oh Tony… you’d better not provoke me again. Otherwise, I won’t allow you to meet with her for the next few days. Wouldn’t you be even angrier then?

Sebastian didn’t hate Myra; he just couldn’t get past the wall in his heart. It made him uncomfortable, but he couldn’t hold it against her forever. His attitude was like a thorn in his heart, something he couldn’t remove. He cleared his throat and gruffly said, “Let’s eat.”

He didn’t bring up the subject again.

Myra wasn’t sure if Sebastian’s attitude meant he had finally accepted her, but Tony had already guided her back to her seat.

The one most pleased with the situation was undoubtedly Tony.

His face remained emotionless in front of Sebastian, making it impossible for the old man to read him.

As Myra sat down, Tony’s hand trailed down her knee and slowly moved to her thigh, where it rested. His hand was warm and dry, and at that moment, it felt as if his palm was growing even warmer. Myra’s face flushed, feeling the heat of his touch.
